Cream and jam or jam and cream? No matter how you spread your scone what matters at the Uraidla Show is the flour based Devonshire icon.

And this years show, to be held on Sunday, November 4, is welcoming everyone to enter into one of the 26 competition sections from Lego, baking, scarecrow crafting, literary entries and photography.

There is no fee to compete.

Show President Damien Liebelt said the show is the biggest it’s been in years which represents how well the community is working together.

“We’re continuing on with our theme of involving the community as much a possible and we’ve got so many new exhibitors joining this year,” Damien said.

“We’ve got the Woodside Army barracks coming along with a piece of high tech missile guiding equipment, school groups and dance groups and for the first time our special focus on wine is broadening to include the Uraidla brewery which they’re pretty excited about.

“The wine really is a highlight as we have a focus on immediate districts and small producers on single blocks which are pretty special as the environmental conditions and steep valleys of the area mean we have cool summer nights allowing for longer ripening of the grapes.

“The wine you get at the show is not something you can buy in a bottle shop, it is unique to the show.”

Damien ensured that the show truly does have something to entice everyone.

“It’s the biggest broad demographic event in the Hills because we put in a big effort to make sure there’s something for everyone,” Damien said.

“The best way to experience it is to participate in it rather than just being a spectator.

“Pick up a show book and enter into a competition which everyone can have a go at.”

For the second year the show has also been moved out of Adelaide’s Mad March period which see’s people’s calendars filled with Fringe, motor sport or musical events.

With the show now being held in November calenders are free to be filled with the family friendly event running alongside the Uraidla Sustainability Fair.

The day itself will be host to up-cycled fashion parades, live music, local producers stalls, art displays, show rides, children’s entertainment, log chopping, monster car shows and miniature goats and farm animals.

The show will end with a fireworks display held at the earlier time of 8.30pm to help parents get children home and in bed at a reasonable time.

And for your information, Damien personally recommends applying a dollop of jam first and then cream with tea spoons to ensure adequate topping measures are achieved as opposed to the knife spread option on your scone.
